I have been wanting a better biscuit recipe and decided to try a new one tonight. I was making sausage gravy and biscuits with hash browns and strawberries on the side for sort of a breakfast for dinner type thing. I searched around for a recipe and found this one on allrecipes.com. I didn't want to use shortening though so I tried it with very cold butter and cut it in. It worked really well. I cooked these for 10 minutes, I think next time I would go with the 8 minutes. These were a touch over done but still very good.
So here is the recipe.
Fluffy Biscuits
(from allrecipes.com)
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
3 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening (*I used cold butter)
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
Directions
In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat egg with milk; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
Turn onto a well-floured surface; knead 20 times. Roll to 3/4-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Way to go with the Paula Dean substitute. She would be proud of you! Your biscuits look wonderful. I wish I had one to nibble on now.
Biscuits are tricky; I use one from Allrecipes as well, called "Never Fail Biscuits". It's my go-to. Yours look very good indeed. Well done.
I just made these and they are wonderful! I did half wheat and half unbleached flour. So yummy and so quick. Thank you for sharing!!
