My son often drinks "green smoothies". These consist of lots of fruit and some sort of green leafy vegetable, most often spinach. Once you blend the greens with the fruit you can't taste them, I promise. Otherwise I'm sure he wouldn't drink it. :)
Anyway, I know this isn't exactly as healthy has making them fresh everyday but it has to be better than no smoothie at all. My time is limited now with the baby and the blender wakes her up so I can't do it when she is sleeping so I came up with a solution to make making smoothies quicker and easier. I made a HUGE batch of organic smoothie stuff (blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, peaches, spinach, lettuce, kale, pears, TONS of stuff... anything I could find in the freezer or fridge or fruit bowl) in a very large bowl and then I froze that into ice cubes in the freezer. I took the cubes out once they were well frozen and put them into a large freezer container. Now every morning I just take out 4 cubes, cover with water, let them thaw a bit, and then put a fresh organic banana in and blend really quickly with my hand held blender. This is much simpler! I know its better to have the fruits fresh every morning but it just wasn't getting done, but I can handle doing it this way. This is also great if you have a lot of fruit that is about to be too ripe and you need to use it up.
Just thought I would share in case anyone else might benefit from doing it this way, too.

This is a great idea - I've thought of doing it many times.
When I make smoothies, I almost always make too much, then freeze it into "smoothie pops" for the kids. It's better in the summer - they can have a little smoothie in the evening and feel like they are getting a great treat :)
You can slice and freeze sliced banana for a while too, and then use it in smoothies... it makes them nice and icy!
I don't think that "fresh" fruit is really that big a deal anymore UNLESS you are buying locally grown produce. Most produce travels so far that it loses a lot of nutrients, vs. frozen which is flash frozen to seal in all the good stuff.
